65-bed acute care hospital in beautiful Northern Maine. Well known for its patient centered services, this hospital and its staff have won numerous state and national awards for quality in both customer service and clinical performance. Hospital has approximately 540 employees, 60 active medical staff providers, 100 courtesy and consulting physicians, and 75 volunteers. Services include: general and vascular surgery, pediatrics, 24-hour emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, physical and occupational therapy, neurology, one day surgery, family practice, sports medicine, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, occupational health, internal medicine, urology, radiology, pathology, and a wide variety of specialty clinics. Internal Medicine Practice Profile: 8 Internists, including 3 Hospitalists, and 2 Family Practitioners. 3 Hospitalists provide inpatient coverage, including weekends. 3 vascular surgeons at Pine Health Services. 1,300 to 1,500 patient visits per year, including nursing home and in-office visits. Outpatient clinics consisting of Cardiology, Pulmonary, Hematology/Oncology, Endocrinology, Neurosurgical, Ear, Nose and Throat, and Podiatry, and Rheumatology, along with diabetes counseling and nutritional therapy. Pain service start up in April 2007. Practice has telephone triage system. Internal Medicine Opportunity Profile: Full-time, 5 days per week

H312 -7 on 7 off – 2 Hours to Portland – Sugarloaf Area
70-bed, acute care community hospital with a 54 Active membership on the medical staff. The Hospitalist Service provides the following types of care: General adult medicine intensive care, including the care of patients with acute coronary syndromes and with chronic respiratory conditions ventilator care; Cardiovascular procedures including EKG interpretation, performance and interpretation of exercise, and pharmacologic cardiology stress tests; Medical consultation and care of surgical patients, consultation to the Emergency Department, and preoperative consultation; Care for adult medicine patients of area physicians who do not themselves care for hospitalized patients; Care for the patients of staff physicians, who cannot come to the hospital to care for their patients during normal working weekdays (care of these patients will be returned to the staff physician at the end of the working day); Performance of routine medical procedures – LP, paracentesis, thoracocentesis, central lines, intubation and critical care management. Hospitalist volumes for the next year are projected at 600 admissions with a daily census of 10-15 patients. This service is expanding to five physicians and one physician assistant. This large hospital is the center for primary, emergency, and acute care for the north of Bangor area. This is a Critical Access Hospital which has a large geographic service area that consists of 14 rural communities that are home to more than 18,000 people. The management team of the hospital is very progressive. They have a new 5.5 million dollar OR suite and a new progressive management team that has been in place for over two years. The hospital has a newly designed cafeteria, admissions area, labor and delivery rooms, and a new OR suite. The hospital is thought to be one of the cleanest hospitals in Maine. The hospital has a good reputation for its quality patient service program. For hospitalist this is a 7 on / 7 off on dayshift only joining 2 others. Night call is covered local physicians. 17 patients per day. Must be comfortable with ICU or willing to learn. $180k, plus productivity and full benefits package. H306 - Hospitalist opportunity in Suburban setting - Half hour to Portland and 1 1/2 hours to Boston MA
Hospitalist opportunity located in a suburban setting about thirty minutes from Portland, ME and ninety minutes from Boston, MA. Coastal Community. 150 bed, non-teaching, not-for-profit, private hospital with large supporting subspecialties available 24/7. Currently six full-time hospitalists and four hospitalist mid-levels 24/7 on-site program. Block Schedule with 7 on 7 off format. 10-15 patients and approximately 1-2 admissions during each shift. The evening and overnight physicians generally see 2-3 new admissions per shift while covering the inpatient service. There are no intensivists in the ICU, so hospitalists need to be proficient in critical care and ventilator management. These skills need not be fully developed on Day One. There is ample opportunity to review and/or renew these skills if a new physician feels uncertain of his/her ICU abilities. All ICU beds are remotely monitored by critical care providers in a “virtual” ICU arrangement (VISICU). Hospitalists co-manage surgical patients when requested by the surgeons. Hospitalists are paid an annual salary of $188,000 and have the opportunity to earn a potential $10,000 annual bonus based on individual performance with respect to core measures and other quality indicators.
